Year 3’s Weekly news

Week Ending 19th September 2025

This week in class has been so much fun!

In music, we are learning to play the ukulele and getting to know all the parts of this tiny, awesome instrument—like the strings, frets, and tuning pegs.

In art, we’ve been experimenting with shading to make our drawings look real, practising how to show textures that are soft, rough, shiny, or bumpy. And in history, we travelled back in time to learn about the very first pyramid ever built, called the Step Pyramid of Djoser, which has seven steps! We imagined the people who worked hard to build it and thought about why they made it in that special shape.

Every day is full of new things to try, explore, and discover—and we’re having a blast doing it!

Week Ending 12th September 2025

This week at school has been really fun and full of new things! In English, we created our own Iron Man poems, using noun phrases and suffixes to make our writing exciting and descriptive. We loved sharing our poems with the class and listening to everyone’s ideas. In Science, we started learning about the different types of rocks and even looked at some real samples to see how they were different. The best part, though, was in Latin, where we learned some basic conversation skills. It was great fun practising greetings and short phrases, and we even imagined what it would be like to be real Romans!

We’ve also been working hard on getting used to our new routines and meeting our class expectations, which we are doing really well with already. On top of that, lots of us have been making new friends and helping each other settle in, which has made our classroom feel like a really friendly and positive place. Altogether, it’s been a brilliant week of learning and teamwork!

Week Ending 5th September 2025

What a fantastic start we’ve had to Year 3! Everyone has settled in brilliantly, and it’s been lovely to see new friendships beginning to grow already.

In History, we’ve started our exciting topic on Ancient Egypt. We’ve been exploring the Valley of the Kings and finding out about the famous archaeologist Howard Carter. The class has been full of curiosity and lots of great questions!

In English, we began reading our new book The Iron Man. Before diving into the story, we wrote our own predictions about what might happen — we can’t wait to see if our guesses were correct as we read on.

To finish off a busy week, we went on our very first school trip to Carroty Wood. It was a brilliant day full of adventure, teamwork, and fun. Everyone represented the school wonderfully, and we can’t wait to share some of the photos with you soon!

What a great start to the year — we’re looking forward to all the learning and adventures ahead in Year 3!
